Unveiling Cosmic by Kylie Jenner: A Men In Black Inspired Creative Concept

First and foremost, this entire concept was created using AI. From the model, to the sets, and everything in between. For this project, I wanted to focus on making the perfume bottle blend within its environment naturally. I had to think about how the marketing around the bottle is perceived and how creative I could get. Since I've never created a concept for a beauty brand, I was excited to get started.

Building from references, research, and prompts

The advantage of building with a node-based system is the amount of control you have. I began with creating the model, "Agent K". She had to look neutral and not stand out in images or videos, but stylish enough to be an editorial model. I wanted to experiment with how the perfume was placed in each image. It needed to be a highly coveted object, mysterious and elusive, based on its abstract shape. After watching Men in Black I and II, I knew exactly where to take the project. I didn't want to just build scenes that included plain backdrops under studio lighting; I wanted each scene to give the perfume a chance to be art.

From my perspective, the Cosmic line of perfumes could be placed on a marble pedestal, under precision spotlights, and observed from two feet away. I needed that feeling translated into the series of scenes. Now I know, this doesn't seem like a MIB-inspired concept at first glance because there aren't aliens or flying cars, but some themes were used.

To establish texture and an analog look, I referenced Hiromix images and created prompts using Gemini and ChatGPT. Once I established the finish of the images, I moved on to creating prompts for each scene. I revisited the marketing images Kylie Cosmetics placed on their website and social media pages. This was important so I didn't get lost in my creativity, and I was able to keep in mind the voice of the brand and its chic images.

I tried placing the perfume in as many different scenarios as I could think of that didn't seem far-fetched or extremely out of place. Again, my intention was to make the perfume look natural and blend within its environment. Through trial and error, I narrowed it down to still images with micromovements.

Final thoughts

The Cosmic campaign was a fun learning experience. It has been a while since I pushed myself this creatively. Throughout the project, I adapted with each AI model update and maintained flexibility. I realized that every model isn't made the same, and you have to experiment.

Less is more in some cases, and I learned my prompts, at times, were too detailed for certain models. I do think there is a space where AI can be accepted creatively, through transparency, intention, and a change in perception. I'll leave it at that. Link to full concept highlighted below.
